Have Class, Will Travel

Or is that Will travels? I'm enrolled in a travel class at my University, and this blog will serve as my daily journal for the trip.

Test post

I downloaded Windows Live Writer today and thought I'd give it a spin. It is a wysiwyg editor that allegedly works smoothly with Blogger.

So far, the editing experience looks beautiful. Thanks to Leo Laporte and Paul Thurrott for bringing it to my attention. Now if only I had somewhere to go so that I could travel-blog it.

Update: Having tweaked the CSS on the blog (something I had no clue about when I set the thing up), the Live Writer post looks as good as the posts I've made through the Blogger interface.

Just a little bit of bragging.

If you'll look to the sidebar, you'll see something has been added under the Flickr badge. It's a link to an on-line travel guide by Schmap for York. If you download it, go to the region map, and search for Rievaulx (or click on Schmap places -> Parks & Gardens -> Rievaulx Terrace and Temples). You'll find three of my photos of Rievaulx Abbey are included.

I think I'm done posting for a while. While I still have some notes for the last day of the class, and some of the days in Scotland and Lincolnshire, I'm just not inspired to write about them at the moment.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the trip, though. I know I had a grand time, both on the trip, and sharing it with you.
I thank you for keeping me company.

New posts in Old bottles

As I said in my last post, I'm revisiting my notebook, and adding stuff that got skipped. To make it easier to find these posts, I'm going to list them in this post:

More updates

  • Ok, I realized that I lost my weather links in the sidebar when I redid the blog template, so I decided instead to include links to the towns we stayed in. The maps are more-or-less centered on the location of our hotel or B&B, but I couldn't figure out how to make Google Maps put the pinpoint on the location, so you'll just have to take it on faith.
  • Also, Joe has updated his website with more pictures from the trip, go there and look around.
  • I have found my notebook with my off-line scribblings about some of the locations we visited, particularly in the Scottish portion of the trip, so I'll be posting more stuff shortly.

Yes, I know I promised more updates.

I'm a-workin' on them. I've decided to delete the Adsense code from the site, which was more trouble than it was worth (exactly $0.00 in earnings).
In doing so, I managed to wipe out the nifty Flickr badge, oops. I'll add that back later.
Speaking of Flickr, the full photo set is now up and mostly finished. If you'd like to make a print of any of the photos, simply click on the "all sizes" button (it looks like a magnifying glass) and download the full-size image. You can then print this at home or at Mega-Lo-Mart or Target or any other place that does digital printing. Alternately, if you are a Flickr member, you can order prints through them and pick them up at Target or have them mailed to you. The pictures should make pretty decent 4"x6" or 5"x7" prints, but not much bigger. If you want the really big image, email me and I'll send it to you. The original should be good for up to an 8"x10".
Now, if you'll excuse me, it's off to the library to work on my paper about Lady Anne Clifford.

Home, at Last.

It's about 11:45 PM Mountain Time as I write this. I've just gotten back from about 11 hours of flying and another 6 hours or so of killing time at Heathrow and O'Hare.
Stay tuned, I'll have some of my notes from Scotland up soon, if I feel energetic, as well as a couple more photos and maybe a movie. In the meantime, I plan on sleeping in my own bed for the first time in nearly a month. With just the right number and type of pillows, with no schedule to keep, and nobody's snoring to interfere with my own. It's damn near paradise.

Added 6/23 at Noon: Hmm. I thought I posted this on Tuesday, but it's been lingering as a draft. I have uploaded the rest of the pictures from the trip to Flickr. Most of them have tags and descriptions by now, and I'll be tidying up the rest later today.

Can't wait to get home...

...because I'm getting tired of being nickel and dimed to death for internet access. \i'm typing this at the Edinburgh Tourist \information Centre, and the keyboard is driving me bonkers. \you see these \'s are where the shift-key is supposed to be, and \i'm tired of back-spacing, retyping it, and then making the same mistake a couple of seconds later.
Anyhow, \i love Scotland, and \i'll have more to write when \i'm not being charged £1 for 30 minutes, or worse.
